Classically trained in the art of mind bending, Hilary Haselton has spent more than 20 years planting ideas and massaging copy at some of the world’s leading advertising agencies, PR firms, and in-house.

Begin the beguine
1981
I started writing at age two, impressing mom, dad, and older brother Brennan by nailing the tone of a 2-yr-old.
A remarkable dancer, dresser, and roller skater, today I’m a seasoned creative copywriter with director-level chops and SEO superpowers in charge of creating things like emails, print, social, digital, articles, blotters, banners, enplugs, billboards, landing pages, websites and direct mail.
Everyone thinks they can do this, and AI is changing the way we do it, but this is precisely why you need a human with heart and hope on the other end, driving. That’s me.
I’ve learned to live with an insatiable curiosity, lifelong love of learning, a designer’s eye and a teenager’s heart. I dig what’s next, plants, pugs, and making plans.

Hungry and foolish
2001
Before leaving Seattle, I had the good fortune to begin my career working under Rob Bagot, a national treasure and GOAT copywriter with over 750 national, international, and regional advertising awards under his belt.
In Chicago I continued my apprenticeship under famed Chairman and Chief Creative Officer Bob Scarpelli at DDB, where I studied the dark arts of outdoor, FSIs, GCDs, CCOs, broadcast, new business pitches, sweepstakes, and print for Dell, Illinois Lottery, JCPenney, Budweiser, and McDonalds.
Los Angeles
Dream team
2004
Deutsch came calling in the early aughts. “Come west, woman, to sunny southern Cal” they said. Turns out I hit the jackpot and was invited to work under the tutelage of current Deutsh CCO Karen Costello who said that she’d impart all the advertising and human persuasion secrets if I arrived with delicious, just-baked Krispy Kreme donuts, daily. At Deutsch I wrote kooky songs for Old Navy and fun commercials for Real California Cheese with cows.

Second City take 2
2005-2022
Some people thought I went back for the brats, beer, and Whitesox but the truth is I fell madly in love with a bartender at the Old Town Ale House.
So the cat came back and set about learning everything there is to know about creative directing, writing, humans, teamwork, parallel parking, mentoring juniors, Italian ice, clients, trust, P&G, Bayer, Huggies, Pfizer, Takeda, Abbvie, Midwest Dairy, H&R Block, Citibank, Allstate, Altria, Kellogs, State, Lake, the Dan Ryan, Ferrera Pan, Second City, stepping, and all the Sides.

No place like Oly
2022 - present
Today I’m based in Olympia where I have ridiculous views of Mt. Rainier, all the oysters I can eat and 99 mole problems. When I’m not demystifying money with the good folks at WSECU, I’m hanging with the fam or forest bathing with my foster Frenchie, Tiny, and plotting our next escape.
